(i) Ammonia dissolves in water and liberates heat. Ammonium ion (NH₄⁺) and hydroxide ion (OH^-) is formed.

(ii) The test used to determine the presence of ions is red litmus is turned blue, methyl orange yellow, and phenolphthalein turns pink.
