Please help with the question
Dear Student,
For an isothermal reversible expansion work done can be calculated using the formula,
W = − 2.303 nRT log V2/V1
W = - 2.303 nRT log V2/V1
So work done is directly proportional to the number of moles which in turn is
Number of moles = Given mass / molecular mass
i.e., higher the molecular mass , minimum is the work done. (inversely proportional)
For the given set, the molecular masses are
1. N2 = 28
2. O2 = 32
3. CO2 = 44
4. CH4 = 12 + 4 = 16
As CH4 is having minimum mass, it is having maximum work done.
Regards.
