1.Muhammad bin tughlaq needed resources to strengthen his army therefore he increased the taxes on the farmers of the Ganga - Yamuna doab region.

2. But unfortunately the taxes were increased during the time of a severe famine.

3. The tax collector officers instead of showing sympathy towards the farmers forcibly collected taxes from them.

4. Unable to bear the high handed behaviour of the officers, the farmers revolted. Many fled to the jungles refusing to farm.

5. Muhammad understood the farmers problems much late. He initiated some relief measures but the loss suffered by agriculture could not be undone.
