Dear Student,

a. (i) When potassium sulphite(K2SO3) is treated with dilute hydrochloric(HCl) acid then sulphur dioxide gas(SO2) is evolved along with potassium chloride(KCl) and water(H2O).
It follows the equation given below.
K2SO+ 2HCl (dilute) → 2KCl + H2O + SO2 (gas)
(ii) Chlorine gas is evolved on reaction of Manganese dioxide with concentrated hydrochloric acid.When Manganese dioxide reacts with HCl, it gives chlorine gas, water and MnCl. MnO2 is the oxidising agent as it oxidises HCl to Cl2 which loses the hydrogen atom.
It follows the equation given below:
​​​​​MnO2 + 4HCl (concentrated) ---> MnCl2 + 2 H2O + Cl
