Please solve the question number ( a and b)..

Dear Student, (a) Cell membrane allows fat(Lipid) soluble substances and small molecules that are water soluble to pass through it but doesn't allow other water soluble molecules to pass. That's why it is called Semipermeable membrane. (b) There are many similarities between plant and animal cells. Both are Eukaryotic cells. Both contain Cell membrane. Both contain a nucleus that contain genetic material inside it. The energy producing unit in both is Mitochondria. Both contain eukaryotic cell organelles like Golgi Apparatus and Endoplasmic Reticulum. Regards

a) Cell membranes are semipermeable, which means molecules can move through them. ... Osmosis is where solvent molecules (usually water) move from one side of a cell membrane to the other. This happens because the concentration of a solute is higher on one side.
b) Both plant and animal cells are eukaryotic cells, and contain the following:

  • Cell surface membrane
  • Mitochondria
  • Ribosomes
  • Nucleus (plus nucleolus)
  • Rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum
  • Golgi apparatus
  • DNA, RNA, proteins, enzymes, ATP, etc

Ribosomes go through a process call synthesis of proteins. This make proteins, which are necessary to life in the cell.

Another organelle that is necessary to the cell is the endoplasmic reticulum. There are two types of endoplasmic reticulum (ER), smooth and rough ER. Rough ER is the ER with ribosomes attached. The rough ER packages proteins made by the ribosomes attached. These proteins are sent out of the cell. Smooth ER has no ribosomes, but does other as well. Smooth ER detoxifies poisonous materials in the cell.

Lastly, both animal and plant cells have Golgi apparatuses. The Golgi packages proteins to stay in the cell. These are the organelles that plant and animal cells have in common.
