Lord Dalhousie was responsible for expanding British territories in India. How did he acheive his objectives?

a. Lord Dalhousie  was largely  responsible for final wave of annexations of Indian territories.
b. He propounded  Doctrine of Lapse whereby If a ruler of a kingdom died without a natural heir then that state would become part of company's territory.
c. Lord Dalhousie also declared in case of an adopted son, then it would be the discretion of the Company to accept or to veto such an adoption and declare a state as an annexed state. It was upto the  British to accept or reject such an adoption.
d. Under this doctrine, Lord Dalhousie also refused titles and pensions to some ruler 
e. Some of the states annexed under this policy were 
Satara , Sambalpur  Udaipur , Nagpur  and Jhansi 
f. His policy certainly created resentment amongst the people and compelled them to rebel.
