According to Hardy Weinberg equilibrium =

p+q = 1
p² + q²+ 2pq  = 1

In the question, p² + 2pq (These will constitute the dominant phenotype)= 0.84

Thus, p² + q²+ 2pq  = 1
q² = 1-(p² + 2pq )
q² = 1 - 0.84
q² = 0.16

Thus q (recessive allele) % = 0.4 or 40% (option 3)

Regaards
