As far as the productivity of principal crops are concerned the rate of output per hectare of Rice, Wheat and Maize on world average are 4.5, 3.3 and 5.6 respectively. The productivity of Rice crop in China more than India and Vietnam because China is the largest producer of Rice. India's productivity performance seems to lag behind others countries. Even in Wheat and Maize crop productivity , UK and USA are the highest and India is lowest. China maintain moderate productivity of wheat and Maize. The analysis clearly indicates that an increase in agricultural investments, is urgently needed to stimulate growth in yield per hectare. Recognizing that there are serious yield gaps it is highly pertinent for India to maintain a steady growth rate in yield per hectare.
