The swallow was an embodiment of many good qualities and virtues. Though the bird was migrating, it stayed back to help the happy prince. It shows the true concern of the swallow. Also, every instruction of the happy prince was carried out by the swallow with care and sincerity. The swallow helped the people just as the happy prince. While the happy prince helped materially, the swallow helped physically. Finally, the swallow was not willing to leave the side of the happy prince which shows its love and dedication towards the statue. Therefore, it was full of love and concern for the happy prince and also for those who were suffering. It played a significant role in the story by mirroring the prince's compassion.
