Pls explain me first law of motion

Dear Student

Newton's first law of motion states that a body will remain at rest or in motion until or unless some external unbalanced force is applied on it.
This shows the inertia of the body which is property of the body by virtue of it body oppose any change responsible for changing its state. Greater the inertia of the body, greater the force needed to change the state of the body.

  • This first law of motion is also known as the 'LAW OF INERTIA'
For example:
  1. When a person standing in a bus falls backward when the bus suddenly starts moving forward. This is due to inertia of rest. When a moving bus suddenly stops person standing  in the bus falls forward this is because of inertia of motion.
  2. The plates and cutlery in our kitchen cabinets will remain in place, until we lift them out.
  3. We will remain on our chair until we lift ourself out of it, or until someone picks us up, or until we fall off because of gravity.
  4. Satellites remain in orbit without burning fuel because they maintain a constant speed, and gravity pulls on them constantly, bending their path around the Earth.

Lesson 1 is?Newton's first law?of motion - sometimes referred to as the?law?of inertia.?Newton's first law?of motion is often stated as. An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

Newton's First Law states that an object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force. It may be seen as a statement about inertia, that objects will remain in their state of motion unless a force acts to change the motion.

Newton's first law of motion is often stated as. An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
