Kangaroo rats live in deserts so they need to conserve water. They have counter-current exchange mechanism in their nasal passages to prevent the water loss by respiration. By this mechanism they keep temperature inside their nasal passages lower than their core body temperature. When they exhale air, it passes through the nose. This results in condensing of the water vapour picked up from the lungs inside nasal passages where from they are absorbed back by the body.
