Pls explain this line it is used in restricted sense then what is used for biotechnology
Is there any difference between genetic engineering and modern biotechnology?

Dear student,
Please find below the answer:

Modern biotechnology involves the usage of methods such as genetic engineering, cell fusion, etc. It is different from conventional biotechnology which involves the usage of methods such as breeding, fermentation, etc. for the production of new organisms with desired or modified traits. The term 'modern biotechnology' is used in restricted sense today because nowadays, it is mainly used to refer only to those processes which make use of genetically modified organisms.

Genetic engineering is one of the two techniques which gave birth to modern biotechnology. It is the process of manipulating nucleic acids, that is, the DNA and RNA of an organism. The organisms whose genes have been altered artificially are known as genetically modified organisms (GMO).

Hope this clears your doubt.
Regards.
