Dear Student

The agent refers to the person by whom the action is done to the object. For example, in the above sentences, the agents are someone, Dr. Ahmed and the principal.

In active form, there is a subject that does the action and there is an object that receives the action.
When this object is changed to take the place of the subject, the sentence is transformed into passive form.
  1. The lights were turned off. (We have omitted the agent 'someone' here and therefore, the sentence becomes agentless passive form)
  2. We were taught mathematics by Dr. Ahmed; Mathematics was taught to us by Dr. Ahmed.
  3. The matter will be looked into by the principal.
