The Canterville ghost is a short story about a haunted mansion with a ghost . The novel begins with a warning to the Otis family, who wants to move into the Canterville chase. Mr.Otis ignores the warning and moves his family into the mansion anyway . M rs . O tis noticed a dull red stain on the floor just by the fireplace and ordered Mrs . umney to clean the stain . Mrs . umneyexplained that the blood stain dated back to 1575 the day lady E leanore D e C anterville wasmurdered by her husband, Sir Simon Canterville and it could not be removed. Washington Otis, the oldest son, suggests that the stain be removed with Pinkerton’s Champion Stain Remover and Paragon Detergent . Next day in the morning however the bloodstain that Washington removed is back . I t was rubbed again and again but it k ept appearing. The ghost has the ability to change forms. So he takes the role of various ghostly apparitions, after trying to scare the Otisfamily several times . The ghost failed and becomes extremely sad. In the story, sir Simon was brave, frightening, distressed, scared, and finally, depressed and w eak. He exposes his vulnerability during an encounter with Virginia, Mr. Otis’ fifteen-year-old daughter. Virginia is different from everyone else in the family, and Sir Simon recognizes this fact. Unlike the rest of her family, Virginia does not dismiss the ghost. She takes him seriously . She listens to him and she disappears with Sir Simon to the Garden of Death. Then she comes back to her family .At the end t he ghost was finally buried and his funeral was d one . She wore the jewels left by the ghost later at her wedding.
