Q 12. What is the main idea of the poet in Geography lesson? Why he uses refrain In the poem?

Dear student,

11. As the aircraft rose further to a height of ten thousand feet, it became lucid that the cities were based near rivers and that the valleys were populated. The poet could clearly see and understand the two basic principles of geography- both land and water supported life. That is why; riversides and valleys were the preferred places of habitation.

12. The main idea of the poem is the poet's failure to comprehend  why men became each other’s enemies. He found it difficult to understand why they fought and killed each other, or why they made divisions of land by building walls and borders across cities. The poet uses a refrain in the poem as repetition adds rhyme and rhythm to the lyrical quality of the poem. It emphasises the movement of the jet and focuses on the earth's appearance from different heights.
