E.g, moulds, mushrooms etc. Saprophytes includes micro-organisms such as bacteria and fungi, which obtain nutrients by breaking down the remains of dead plants and animals. They release enzymes on dead organic matter and break the complex substances present in it into simpler form. They absorb these simpler substances and thus obtain nutrients from them.
