Plz explain me why in group 15 elements , the oxide in the higher oxidation state of an element is more acidic than that of the lower oxidation state ??

Dear Student,

Group 15 elements like nitrogen can form oxides in oxidation state of nitrogen ranging from +1 to +5. In general, the oxides with element in higher oxidation state are more acidic than those in which element is in lower oxidation state.

This is because, more is the oxidation state of element, more will be deficiency of electrons as they are involved in bonding and are more towards the oxygen due to higher electronegatvity of oxygen.
Due to this, the element in higher  oxidation state is more electrophilic and as an acid has a tendency to accept electrons. Moreover these on dissolving in water form more acidic solution than those with element in lower oxidation state.

Regards.
