Ramsar sites are of international importance under Ramsar convention. Ramsar Convention on wetlands defines wetlands as: Areas of marsh, whether natural or artificial, permanent or temporary, including areas of marine water. Some of the Ramsar sites in India are as follows:

Keoladeo National Park- Rajasthan
Loktak lake- Manipur
Mangrooves- Orissa
East Calcutta Wetland- West Bengal.
