Plz EXPLAIN WHY CHARGE ON metal strip will be positive?
A plastic straw is rubbed against a polythene bag and brought near an arrangement of a metal strip and gold leave (as shown in the given figure ). The different bodies are labeled as i, ii, iii and iv respectively . All these bodies will become charged.
The charge on bodies i, ii, iii and iv will be respectively
A positive, positive ,negative and negative
B. negative,negative, positive and positive
C.  negative , positive  negative and positive
D. positive , negative , positive  and negative

Dear student,

When we touch a negatively charged plastic straw rubbed with the polythene bag and brought near the arrangement of the metal strip and gold leaf we see that the electrons present on the metal strip will be repelled and they travel down through the conductor and accumulate at the gold leaf. Thus, only positive charges are present or left behind at the metal strip. The accumulated negative charges on the gold leaf will diverge both the leaf because like charges repel each other. Thus, by the phenomena of electrostatic induction, the charge on the metal strip will be positive.

Hope this will clear all your doubts about the topic.

becoz the anions will get attracted towards the polythene as a result the metal strip will be left of cations only i.e positive charge
