Dear Student,

Gram positive bacteria are those bacteria retain a blue/purple color when stained using Gram staining procedure due to the treatment with crystal violet dye.

The following are true or features of a Gram positive bacterium:

1. Teichoic acid is present in the cell walls of Gram-positive bacteria is an anionic polymer of ribitol phosphate and glycerol phosphate. It  can be covalently linked to N-acetylmuramic acid  in the tetrapeptide  cross-linkage of the peptidoglycan layer(called wall teichoic acid), or they can be linked in the cytoplasmic lipid membrane (lipoteichoic acid).

2. Contains a thick layer of peptidoglycan layer.

3. The cell wall has multiple layers of peptidoglycan whereas the Gram negative bacteria have single layer.

4. Lipopolysaccharide is absent in Gram positive bacteria.

Therefore, the incorrect statements about the Gram positive are:
a) Teichoic acid absent
c) cell wall is single layered
d) Lipopolysaccharide is present.
