26 (i)  Transition metals show paramagnetic behaviour. Paramagnetism arises due to the presence of unpaired electrons with each electron having a magnetic moment associated with its spin angular momentum and orbital angular momentum. However, in the first transition series, the orbital angular momentum is quenched. Therefore, the resulting paramagnetism is only because of the unpaired electron

(ii) Scandium (Z = 21) does not exhibit variable oxidation states. scandium outer configuration is 3d1 4s2 .it loses 1 electron from d orbital and 2 electrons from s orbital to form Sc3+ ion

(iii)

In [Ti(H2O)]3+ complex, d-d transition takes place between t2g and eg of d-subshell. The electron get excited to higher energy level when exposed to high energy. When electron returns to its ground state, it emits energy of particular wavelength, due which element shows colour. The d-d transition can be seen in figure given below.
