Plz solve Q no.7 for 2 mark question 7. 8. A volcano erupted in Hawaii and lava covered land for centuries. Eventually new lichens and then plants grew on the lava, Is this primary or secondary succession ? Justify your answer. Match the following processes :

Primary succession refers to the development or formation of a new life forms in an environment which lacks top soil due to various massive events like volcanic eruptions etc. New life forms develop on hard rocky surfaces as a result of primary succession.

Secondary succession refers to the development of plant or animal life in the habitats where the earlier life forms have been destroyed due to events such as forest fire, epidemic disease or pest attack. This area possesses top soil and the new life forms develop on this area following the destruction of life forms developed due to primary succession.


​​​​​​Also Lichens are called as pioneer species (where no other existed, they appear first) which marks the primary succession. Therefore, it represents the primary succession.
