n election commission is an Independent body responsible for holding free and fair elections in India.  It takes decisions on every aspect of elections, implements code of conduct
f.  There are General elections which are conducted after every 5 years, mid term elections when  
government has not been able to complete its term and Parliament has been dissolved  and we have witnessed mid term elections to elect new government and  by election when elections takes place only for one constituency to fill the vacant seat caused by death or resignation of a member are referred as by-election
g. For the purpose of elections the entire country is divided into constituency , which is a demarcated area , for ​For Lok Sabha Parliamentary  elections the entire country is divided into 543 constituencies. In case of State Legislative elections, it is only the state which is divided into various constituencies.The constituency is demarcated or divided in proportion to the population 
h. Then there is also a provision of reserved constituencies, for elections to the Lok Sabha and legislative assemblies. From these constituencies person belonging to SC, ST can stand for elections.
i.All the dates peratining to leectiosn are announced by the election commission, which includes dates for nomination of papers, scrutiny, withdrawyl, campaigning, polling day and also announcememt of result

India has an asymmetric federal government, with elected officials at the federal, state and local levels. At the national level, the head of government, Prime Minister, is elected by members of the lower house of the parliament of India. The elections are conducted by the Election Commission of India.  Members of the  upper house of the Indian parliament, are elected by elected members of the legislative assemblies of the states and the Electoral college for the Union Territories of India.
