Nucellus is a central part of ovule. Its main function is to provide nutrient to embryo. It also protects embryo from external factors. It develops into a seed after fertilization.
The point to which the ovule is attached to the ovary is called the placenta. Thus its main function is attachment of ovule to ovary and to provide nutrient to the embryo.
