This is because humans havee changed ecosystems more rapidly and extensively over the past 50 years than during any other period, primarily to meet increasing demandsfor food, fresh water, timber, fibre, fuel , etc.
- Such consumptions together with the world's population increasing are major contributors to environmental damage.
- Population seems to have largely dropped off the environmental movement's agenda. The factors like uncertainty and controversy around population and reproductive health , rights issues related to family planning, abortion and various governmental population policies have been drawn and changed according to the population statistics for many years.
