Dear student,

Your question seems to be unclear. But assuming your question to be :

Q. What are possessive nouns? Explain with examples.

Here are the answers:

Possessive Nouns: Nouns that show possession or ownership are called Possessive Nouns. They are formed by using the apostrophe (?) mark and the letter "s". For example:

Sita's book, Children's day, teacher's diary etc.

Look at the following examples:

a) Hari's book is torn.
b) The postman's speech was encouraging.
c) The boy's dad is a pilot.
d) The girl's name is Geeta.
e) Please call the child's mother.
(Here the nouns Hari, postman, boy and girl, child becomes a Possessive Noun when we add an apostrophe and letter 's' to them. In singular nouns we put an apostrophe (') before the "s".)

f) The boys' project was a big success.
g) I study in a girls' school.
h) I got a gift from my teacher on children's day.

(Look at the words - boys, girls, children. These are plural nouns. The nouns "boys and girls" already contain the letter "s". We add apostrophe (') after the "s" if the plural noun ends with an "s" . However if the plural noun doesn't end with an "s", such as in children, we add apostrophe (') and "s".to it to make it a Possessive noun.)

i) Sudhir and Rajbir's shop is located in a mall.
(Here, Sudhir and Rajbir's shop indicates that the shop is jointly owned by the persons named Sudhir and Rajbir. In such cases we put the apostrophe (') and "s" in the name which comes later. )
Another example of this is Seeta, Radha and Sangeeta's car is red in colour. (Here we have put - 's in the third name. This shows that the car belongs to all three of them.)

j) Rachna's and Naresh's presentations were liked by all.
(Here, an apostrophe (') and "s" after Rachna's and Naresh's names shows that the persons named Rachna and Naresh made separate presentations that were liked by all. Note that there is an - s after the apostrophe mark in both the names. Both the names are considered as separate entities.)
