Prakhar sets up and operates for the determination of boiling point of distilled water in Shimla he recorded the boiling point as 97 degree Celsius instead 100 degree celsius what is the reason of lower boiling point.

Dear student,

Boiling point can be defined as the temperature at which the liquid’s vapour pressure is equal to the external atmospheric pressure.

At higher altitudes atmospheric pressure is lower and so boiling becomes easier, as lower vapour pressure is required. So less temperature is required for boiling. Or we can say that boiling point has decreased. Shimla is located at higher altitude.

For the reason mentioned above , the boiling point recorded was less than 100 degree.
