Linear momentum is the measure of the motion of a body. Momentum of a body depends upon its mass and velocity. It is a defined quantity we cannot derive it. It is defined as the product of mass and velocity.

When a variable force is acting on a body for a short time which can be change first from zero to maximum and then from maximum to zero. Then the total effect of the force is measured by impulse. And the force is called impulsive force.

Impulse =force X time = change in momentum
