Q.1) a rectangular swimming pool 30m long, 20m wide, and 1.5m deep is to be tiled. If each tile is 50cmx50cm, how many tiles will be required? (remember, there is no roof for the pool)

Length, l = 30 m ; breadth, b = 20 m ; height, h = 1.5 m
Area to be tiled = Total surface area - Area of the top

Total surface area = 2(lb + lh + bh) = 2(600 + 30 + 45) = 2 ( 675 )= 1350 m2

Area of the top = 30 × 20 = 600 m2

Area to be tiled = 1350 - 600 = 750 m2 = 75,00,000 cm2
side of each tile, s = 50 cm

Area of each tile = s2 = 502 = 2500 cm2

∴ Number of tiles that will be required =  75,00,000 / 2500 = 3000

lsa of swimming pool + area of base of swimming pool = area to be tiled

[2h(l+b)] +[l*b]= [2*1.5(30+20)] + [30*20] = 150+600=750m^2

750m^2 =7500000cm^2

area of tile = 50 cm *50 cm = 2500cm^2

no. of tiles = area of floor/area of one tile = 7500000/2500 =3000 tiles
