The chapter 'We're not afraid to die if we can all be together' is a tale of courage, determination and optimism. It explores the strength of bonds of love and affection within a family and how it can fight off adversity. The chapter describes the journey of a family in a boat: the narrator, his wife and two children try to recreate Captain Cook's voyage around the world. The chapter is clearly divided into sections: the beginning of the voyage, the catastrophe, the struggle for survival, desperation to find land and ultimate victory. the descriptive language paints a picture of the family's struggle against the hostile sea. What comes forward is the spirit of survival displayed by the two young children that inspires their parents to be optimistic and fight for saving the family. Fortitude, perseverance, sanguineness are the virtues displayed by the characters who emerge victorious despite many hurdles.
