Q 25 a and c

25. (i) With the help of suitable examples, explain the following:

(a) Resource partitioning
(c) Light as a major ecologically relevant abiotic factor

Dear Student
25 a) In order to avoid competition for resources when species divide a niche it is termed as resource partitioning.Eg. In Colorado, few scientist observed two bee species, one feed of flowers with different shape and color while others have different length of proboscis.  Likewise, Anolis evermanni and Anolis gundlachi are two varieties of lizards which have shared their resources in a way that one species feed on insects lying above branches and other feed on those present on the ground.
25 c) light play a vital role growth and is one of the major abiotic factors. Plants do photosynthesis in presence of light energy. Few species require low light while others need high light for the synthesis of food. Even in oceans, different zone has been divided on basis of light availability for the growth of organisms.
