Q 3
3. A student performed  an experiment  to measure  pressure  and volume  of a  gas at constant temperature  and  noted the following :
Pressure (mm of Hg) Volume (cm3)
100 80

125 x
200 40
y 32

Calculate the value of x and y.Which law was used in the calculations?Draw a suitable graph.
(Ans. x=64 cm, y=250 mm)

Dear student
Please find the solution to the asked query:
If P1= 100mmHg
V1= 80cm3
P2= 125mmHg
V2= x
Then
P1V1=P2V2
100.80 = 125.x
x =64cm3

Again
P3=200mmHg
V3=40cm3
P4=y
V4=32cm3
Thus
P3V3=P4V4
200.40 = y.32
y= 250cm3

This is in accordance with Boyles law.
