(2016) 0 vot SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS Define : (i) Cytokinesis in plant cells (2013)

Dear student.

1.  Centrioles in animal cell are structures that make centrosome. They help to organize assembly of microtubules during cell divisions. Thus centrosome initiates cell division.
ii.  Vitellogenesis is the process of yolk (lipoprotein) formation in the oocyte, or female germ cell of all animal groups other than the mammals. It occurs through nutrients deposition. It involves release of juvenile hormones and production of vitellogenin protein.

iii. Nucleus is the control centre of all metabolic activities.

iv. Crossing over. Crossing over is the process of exchanging genes between non-sister chromatids of homologous chromosomes. It occurs during the pachytene stage of meiosis I. It is a source of genetic variability among sexually reproducing organisms.
