i. Polysaccharides
ii. Amino acids
                          OR
Differentiate between prosthetic group and coenzyme.

Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query

7. i. Function of polysaccharides:
a. Cellulose, a polysaccharide form a component of plant cell wall.It Provides strength and rigidity to the cell wall. Another polysaccharide known as pectin is present in the primary cell wall and also in non-woody terrestial plants.
b.Chitin forms the exoskeleton of crustaceans (cockroach). It is also secreted by some micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi and also produced by some plants.

ii. Amino acids:
a.  Many amino acids join together to make proteins. Their main function is to make proteins which carry out all the other functions of the cell.
b. They help in synthesising the neurotransmitters. e.g. tyrosine helps in the production of norepinephrine and adrenalin.

Coenzyme is a substance that acts with enzyme to initiate the function of the enzyme. It is a non protein chemical substance that binds with protein and helps in enzyme action. They are loosely bound cofactors.
Example of coenzyme is flavin adenine dinulcleotide (FAD), biotin etc.

Prosthetic group is a non protein component of a conjugated protein like ‘haem’ of haemoglobin. They are tightly bound cofactors.
