Q. Differentiate between the following :
  1. Ginning and retting
  2. Fabrics and fibres
  3. Jute Fibres and Cotton fibers
  4. Synthetic and natural fibers
Q. Give reasons:
1. Cotton clothing is the best clothing for hot and humid climate.
2. Natural silk is very comfortable cloth but very expensive.
3. Cotton clothes are easy to wash.

Q. Very shor type answer type question.
  1. Name the fibre which can be knitted.
  2. Name the fibre which absorbs water easily.
  3. Name the fibre which is obtained after the process of retting.
  4. Name the type of fibre which burns easily.
  5. Name the fibre which is stronger but less elastic than cotton.

Dear student ,

E. i)
Ginning Retting
It is a process which involves separation of cotton fibre from cotton seeds.  It is an extraction process by which fibres are obtained from the stem of the plant.
In this process, seeds are separated from cotton by combing. In this process, the stem of plant is kept submerged in water for a few days. During this period, the stem of the plant rots and the fibres (present in the stem) remain. These fibres can then be separated from the non-fibrous matter by hand.

4)

Fibers :They are long thread like structures. Fibers can be natural or synthetic.

  •  Natural fibers are obtained from natural sources either plant or animals. The fibers obtained from plants are cotton and jute and the ones obtained from animals are wool and silk.
  • Synthetic fibers are man-made fibers like nylon, polyester etc.

Fabric :  When network of fibers are weaved together they form fabric (cloth). Fabric can be of different type depending on the fibers it is made up of. For example-  cotton fabric, silk fabric or polyester fabric

F. 1)
Cotton, a natural fibre, is a good absorber of water. It  helps in absorbing the sweat and expose it to the atmosphere for easy perspiration. This make us feel cool. Moreover, cotton clothes have large holes through which air can pass easily. These are few reasons why we should prefer wearing cotton clothes in summers.

Kindly post remaining queries separately.
