Q) "Primary sector was the most Important sector of economic activity at initial stages of development." Evaluate the statement. (5 points)

Dear Student,

The primary sector is considered as the most important sector of economic activity during the initial stages of development because of the following reasons:

1. The primary sector usually produces variety of raw materials that are sent to another sector called secondary sector for manufacturing purposes. The the manufactured materials are further sent for transportation by the territory sector.

2. The primary sector also directly makes use of the natural resources. It is the most important sector which provides adequate employment opportunities to large number of people in the under-developed or developing countries.

3. Utmost importance is given to the procurement of raw materials in the primary sector without which the very existence and survival of secondary and territory sectors become impossible. Thus, the primary sector plays a crucial role in the initial stages of development.

Dear student,

Primary sector is more important than the tertiary sector, because tertiary sector is dependent on the primary sector. The tertiary sector cannot work until and unless the primary sector is working efficiently. For example, for the production and transportation of sugar, the primary sector will produce sugarcane, the secondary sector will produce sugar from the sugarcane and tertiary sector transports this sugar to the market.
So if the primary sector does not work properly ( does not produce much sugarcane ), then secondary sector's produce will be less and so the tertiary sector will not earn much more profit by selling it.
Therefore the primary sector is more important than the tertiary sector.
