Q) what is the number of lattice points in simple cubic structure?
Would the answer be 8 or 1 and why?

Dear student
The simplest repeating unit in a crystal is called a unit cell. Each unit cell is defined in terms of lattice points--the points in space about which the particles are free to vibrate in a crystal.
The number of atoms ar corner = 8
The number of lattice points = 8*(1/8)
                                             = 1

The primitive cubic system (cP) consists of one lattice point on each corner of the cube. Each atom at a lattice point is then shared equally between eight adjacent cubes, and the unit cell therefore contains in total one atom (18 × 8).
