Q why was the narrator initially hesitant to go the address? (The Address)

The narrator had initially waited for a long time after the Liberation because she was absolutely uninterested in all the stored things and naturally quite afraid of it as well because these were the emblems of a tormenting past. She was afraid of being confronted with things that had belonged to a connection which no longer existed, hidden away in cupboards and boxes, waiting in vain until they were put back in their place. These things had managed to endure precisely because of their nature as inanimate objects.
