Q16

16.  When a plant cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, which of the following will not apply?

(1)  Wall pressure is decreased   (2)  The cell become turgid   (3)  Suction pressure of the cell sap will decrease
(4)  Water potential of the cell sap will increase

Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query

Plant cells swell up and become turgid when kept in hypotonic solution. They absorb large amounts of water in hypotonic solution such that the vacuole is completely filled with water and the cytoplasm presses against the cell wall. In this case, wall pressure increases.

Wall pressure is the pressure exerted by the cell contents against the cell wall.

Hence, option (1) i.e. wall pressure is decreased will not apply.
