The individuals in a social organisation perform activities in relation to their social position. This is what is called status. The activities which are done in a social organisation is defined as a role of the members. Individual performs role according to the status in the society.So,a balance need to be maintained between the two.They are the basis of social participation. One has to perform the designated role assigned to him by his status. For example, A President has his own role based on his status. Similarly, a peon or an office bearer has his own role. He cannot perform the role of the President as his status is not that of a President.
