RAJA RAMMOHAN ROY IS CONSIDERED AS ' FIRST MODERN MAN OF INDIA'.WHY?
a. Raja Ram Mohan Roy was rightly regarded as the first great leader of modern India who sought to reform the country of its degenerative practices.
b. He was pained by corrupt and stagnant practices of caste system, superstitions and wanted people of the country to develop scientific temper and approach.
c. He sought to reform Hindu religion by condemning caste rigidities, idol worship and other rituals.
d.In 1828, he founded Barhmo Samaj for the purpose of developing modern outlook in the people, to purify Hinduism and to preach belief in one god.
e. He was a strong champion of women's rights, he stood for equality and led a struggle against Sati. He got a law passed banning sati.
f. Raja Ram Mohan Roy aimed at spreading modern education as it promoted modern ideas and thinking which he strongly believed would reform the Indian socuety.He founded the famous Hindu college, vedanta college to encourage scientific, thinking among the people .
