Raziyya Sultan was unique in the history of the Delhi Sultanate. Do you think women leaders are accepted more readily today?

Dear student
Answer to your question is as follows :

Raziya Sultan , the first Muslim woman ruler and perhaps the only woman ruler of the Sultanate period was an able and efficient administrator who ruled from 1236 to 1240.
Her period of reigning could certainly be regarded as a unique period as she established complete law and order, who preferred to dress like a man and being acknowledged as the Sultan. Her ascendence to the throne was certainly not acceptable to the nobility who could not see a women occupying the throne of the Sultanate and was apparently removed in 1240.
Raziya Sultan's case study reflects the conservative attitude of a male dominated society which could not see  a Women occupying a prominent place in politics.

In the present scenario, efforts are made to ensure participation and representation of women in the political front. Large number of women have played active role in politics right from the nationalist movement till present. With many women leaders occupying higher positions in politics, we may give example of Sarojini Naidu, Indira Gandhi, Prathiba Patil etc. Such changes have occurred over a period time, where people are becoming more liberal, progressive in their outlook and accepting Women leaders.
However, not to deny that ,society may still find difficult to accept women as leaders, because of the prejudiced view it continues to hold and still to consider politics as the man's World, nevertheless, there is increased presence of women in the politics today.
