The afternoon was hot and so was the railway carriage. The next stop was Kajiguda. The old lady opposite was fast asllep and I wondered whether she had missed her stop. But I did't dare wake her up ...What happened next?

The afternoon was hot and so was the railway carriage. As the train moved away from the station, it gathered speed. The next stop was Kajiguda. The old lady who was sitting in front of me had fallen asleep and was even snoring. I wondered whether she had to get down at the previous station or she had to go further. I wanted to wake her up and ask about it but I did not dare. Suppose she was a bad tempered lady? The train moved on and I sat there worrying on behalf of someone else. I think I dozed off and the train coming to a halt suddenly awakened me. The old lady had pulled the chain and was shouting loudly. She was saying that she had to get down at Kajiguda and no one had awakened her. She was going to visit her sick daughter and now she was late all because of the people sitting around her who were careless and irresponsible. The man sitting next to me tried to tell her that Kajiguda was yet to come, but she was in no mood to listen. Everyone was getting angry now, people were shouting at her that due to her stupidity the train was getting late. Things began to quieten down with the arrival of the ticket checker and a police man. They demanded to know who had pulled the train and when things were explained to them they caught hold of the old lady and threatened to punish her. Some people intervened and told them the old lady's daughter is sick and maybe that is the reason for her behaviour. They reluctantly let her go and everyone breathed a sigh of relief when the train resumed its journey.
