Read the poem and answer the questions given below. Coromandel Fishers Sarojini Naidu Rise, brothers, rise; the wakening skies pray to the morning light, The wind lies asleep in the arms of the dawn like a child that has cried all night. Come, let us gather our nets from the shore and set our catamarans free, To capture the leaping wealth of the tide, for we are the kings of the sea! No longer delay, let us hasten away in the track of the sea gull?s call, The sea is our mother, the cloud is our brother, and the waves are our comrades all. What though we toss at the fall of the sun where the hand of the sea-god drives? He, who holds the storm by the hair, will hide in his breast our lives. Sweet is the shade of the coconut glade, and the scent of the mango grove, And sweet are the sands at the full o? the moon with the sound of the voices we love; But sweeter, O brothers, the kiss of the spray and the dance of the wild foam?s glee; Row, brothers, row to the edge of the verge, where the low sky mates with the sea.

Answer the following questions:-

1)what are the problem faced by Fishermen?
2) describe the morning scene at the sea shore?
3)what do they think about life on shore ? Do they prefer it to the dangers of the sea?

Dear student,

1. There are many problems faced by the fishermen: their boats are tossed and turned by the waters of the sea at whose mercy they are! They often face harsh conditions of dangerous stormy winds, rising waves and dark threatening clouds when they go out to fish.
2. The wakening sky is offering its morning prayer to the Sun at the time of the dawn. The fishermen have to rise very early before the first ray of the Sun reaches the sky. Even the wind is calm then. The fishermen gather their nets and get ready to go out in their boats, following the sea-gull's call.
3. The fishermen are definitely tempted by the inviting shade of the coconut glade and the scent of the mango grove. They offer relaxation. But, they prefer the 'kiss of the spray' and the 'dance of the foam's glee'. In other words, they prefer life at sea even though it is dangerous. The horizon is forever beckoning them.
