respiratory pathway is believed to be a catabolic pathway? however nature of TCA cycle is amphibolic ?explain for 3 marks question

The amphibolic pathway is the biochemical pathway that involves both anabolism (synthesis of substances) and catabolism (breakdown of substances). TCA or Kreb's cycle serves as a good example of amphibolic pathway. During this process the pyruvate is broken down to release carbon dioxide. During the first reaction, the a four carbon compound (oxaloacetate) condenses with a two carbon compound (acetate) to form a six carbon compound (citrate). This reaction is typically an anabolic reaction. After this CO2 is lost in each step to produce a four carbon compound succinic acid. These steps are typically catabolic in nature. Thus, TCA or Kreb's cycle involves both anabolism (synthesis of substances) and catabolism (breakdown of substances), so represents an amphibolic pathway.
