River water is clear compared to sea water even though, both contain mud and sand. Why?

River water as compared to sea water has less turbulence and mixing of water. Although, River water is flowing but it give enough time for the process of sedimentation of sand and mud to the bottom surface to occur. Therefore, the above layers of the river water are clear.
