Sara has two identical pieces of thin wires of 12cm long. She bends one to form a square and the other to form a rectangle. Which one would have a greater AREA ? ( EXPERTS TO ANSWER FAST, VERY URGENT .)

A) SQUARE

B) RECTANGLE

C) BOTH HAVE THE SAME AREA

Since the perimeter of two figures is same Thus length of side , a= perimeter/4 = 12/4 = 3Now area of square = a2 = 32 =9Let the length and breadth of rectangle formed be b and cPerimeter of rectangle = length of rope = 12 = 2(b+c)b+c =12/2 =6Area of rectangle = b×c = b(6-b) = 6b - b2  Now maximum value of this expression is at b=3 which is length of squareThus area of rectangle is <area of squareThus option (A) is correct

The perimeter of square is 12cm therefore side is 12/4 = 3cm. So area = side*side = 9 sq. cm.

Perimeter of rectangle = 2(l+b) = 12cm therefore l+b = 6cm. So possible dimensions are 5 and 1, 4 and 2, 3 and 3cm.

Thus possible area of rectangle are 5sq.cm, 8sq.cm, and 9sq.cm(but this becomes a square)

Therefore the square has greater area and option A) SQUARE is the right answer.
