science v/s religious explain ?

Faith is determined by accidental causes; it has no necessary relation to truth.

A strong persuasion, but no objective certitude.  It embraces error as well as

truth, and embraces it with equal affection.  But reason, in its proper nature, is

  identical with the actual truth of things, that is, their relation in the mind of God;

and human reason, on any intelligible theory of God's government, must be a

  continual approximation to absolute truth....

Reason requires the nutriment and impulse furnished by faith.  Faith Requires

the discreet elaboration of reason.  The one has substance; the other, the form.

Reason alone would give us a world without God, bodies without spirits, earth

without heaven, a day without a morrow, a way without a goal.  Faith alone would

give us a pantheon of questionable divinites, a pandemonium of unqestionable fiends,

an overshadowing theocracy for civil rule, a dispensation of dark ages without end.

(But some of us don't really believe this.  Actually what we do believe is that faith

  suffocates science, eventually.  Ed.)

----------------

Scientists say:  "Extraordinary claims require extraodinary proof."

Theologians say:  That is a double standard since Scientists often do not apply it to their

discoveries.  General relativity for instance was proven on the basis of subtle effects

involving the orbit of the planet Mercury, etc., and slight displacement of starlight

when viewed near the sun, evidence hardly qualiying as extraordinary.

With respect to Christianity scientists need to explain how Christianity arose, which

if it was not due to extraodinary events, must have occurred in some other way.

--------------------

"It is so much easier to believe than to think; it is astounding how much more believing is done than thinking!"

  James F. Kemper, civil engineer

from Rising Tide by John M. Barry

-------------------

"It is through knowledge of the creation that we arrive at knowledge of the Creator."

  William of Conches, 1143 AD

Or...

"Since God has spoken to us it is no longer necessary to think."

  Attributed to Tertullian, 203 AD

---------------

Both Science and Religion are concerned with finding out about the truth of our situation.  Who are we?  Why are we here?  What is our purpose?  But they can come up with somewhat different answers.

  Science versus  Religion

Gather Empirical Facts <-???-> Study an Ancient and Revered Book

(the "evidence")  (believed to be God's word)

    |

    /

Use Critical Reasoning  <-???->  Accept it by Faith

(based on the evidence) (based on instinct, a feeling, intuition?)

   |  |

 / /

Form A Tentative Theory <-???->  Revealed Truth

(Either the reasoning or (must not be doubted?)

the facts may be wrong, so

best if submitted to a jury of

one's peers for their agreement.)

Which is the best path to truth?  Science or faith, or some mix of both?  You be the judge.  The truth of science may not be what you want it to be.  It may be an unpleasant truth (eg possibly there is no after-life, no immortal soul), and it will have been hard work to get there (ironically sometimes referred to as "soul-searching"), whereas faith usually appears out of an emotional acceptance, that "Yes, it must be true!" (I can't bear to think about the alternative).

Science and religion are two different aspects of life. Both have their own importance and value. History tells us that the two have always been in conflict in the beginning; religion was all important and reigned supreme in every spare of life. But gradually its place was taken by science. Today science is far more important than religion.

There are basic differences between the outlook of science and religion. The outlook of science is rational. Science believes in experiment and observation. It teaches its followers that nothing is to be believed until it has been proved to be true through experiment. Religion, on the other hand, is a matter of faith. It teaches its followers to believes and have faith in the teaching of religious teachers and the authority of religious books. Thus whatever is written in the ‘VEDAS’ or the ‘GITA’ is true, for it is the word of GOD himself. The existence of god cannot be proved but it can be felt by those who have faith. It is all a matter of faith and not of experiment or observation.

Scientific truths are tentative. Science believes that nothing is absolutely true. What is regarded as true today may be proved to be false the very next day by further experiments and observations. Thus, there was a time when the earth was supposed to be motionless and the sun was supposed to go round it. Gradually science proved that this was wrong and showed that it is the earth which goes round the sun. Similarly, Newton’s law of GRAVITATION held the day till Einstein came out with his superior theory of relativity. In this way, science advances towards truth as absolute. Whatever is written in religious books is regarded as absolutely true. Anyone who criticizes the teaching of religion is considered to be a heretic and is violently condemned. In the past, those who dared to question a religious truth were mercilessly persecuted and punished. The example of GALILEO readily comes to mind in this connection. In short, science is progressive and dynamic while religion are static and orthodox.

Science advance from the particular to the general laws and principles. Thus, NEWTON saw an apple falling, observed a number of other similarity phenomena, and finally developed, on the basis of his observations his famous laws of gravitation. Religion, on the other hand, works from the general to particular. Its methods are entirely different from those of science. Scientific laws and theories are based on a much sounder foundation than the principles of religion.

With the advance of science, religion has gradually lost ground. Its truths have been subjected to searching analysis by science, one after another, and have been proved to be false. The methods of science have appeared more convincing and rational and people have gradually lost faith in religion. Science has also conquered the heart of the people by its practical utility. The practical applications of its laws has provided man with undreamed of comforts and luxuries, religions has no such visible and material benefits to offer.

However, science has its own limitations. Man has a body as well as a spirit. Science is concerned only with the body; it can do nothing for the sprit. Science may provide man with physical comforts, but it is religion alone which can give him the courage to struggle against heavy odds. He may even face death itself, with a smiling face. It is religion and religion alone, which can bring the healing balm for his wondered spirit.

In the end it may be mentioned that religion is a social phenomenon as well as personal and individual. It is all a matter of individual belief. Science has weakened religious faith is only as it is a social phenomenon. Science has not been able to touch religion, even the least, in its personal and individual aspects. There are people even today whose faith in the name of the religion remains unshaken and who can still make the maximum sacrifice in the name of religion. It would, therefore be wrong to say that science has made man irreligious or that it is an enemy of morality.

Science and religion… we have always heard contradictory view points on these two. It is very difficult to choose one over the other because one is based on fact and logic, while the other is built on faith and hope.

That’s exactly what the creation theory is, beliefs in a superior supernatural being, whereas the Big Bang theory is faith in logic. It is difficult to judge two uniquely difficult theories because both do not hold the answers; they are merely a description of the type of person we are and what morals and priorities we have with us.

Someone who is atheist, for example, will believe in the scientific version; whereas someone who has had a bad life may hold onto their hope for a being that will one day make the world better for them, and hence they will trust the theory of religion. But, it’s not easy to choose between the two.

Normally, when approached with a task of choice, we will subject ourselves to view every different side to each story to make an intelligible decision based on the truth. Unfortunately, with this topic we cannot.

As a student, it is solely based on our personal beliefs, but where have these beliefs evolved in the first place? As we grew with each stage in our lives, we have been influenced by an outside force.

Whether it be our parents, the media, our school systems-our ideas are truly not our own. How can one make an unbiased opinion with all these factors to consider? It is impossible. I grew up as a Catholic, I went to a Catholic Church all my wife, my mom whom I believe is as close to a fundamentalist as they come, taught me the Creation story, my teachers at my Catholic schools taught me the same theory and so on.

Of course, I am going to believe the Creation theory, I was brainwashed to believe it, and even if it is the wrong choice, I will always believe it. Even as an older pupil with an independence and a mind of my own, I still believe this, it is my faith, I learned that it was right and hence, until my death, no one will change my opinion (unless with the answers of course!) because once it’s in my mind, it will never leave.

However, there is always the logical aspect to this. As you develop your mind, you start asking yourself philosophical questions; questions that have no answer and possible answers seem to contradict one another. This is where my other sense of perception can alter my already existing theory.

I think that although science has not actually begun creation, it simply continued it. I am skeptical about the Adam and Eve theory, not that I doubt God’s abilities, but there are gaps in that theory too. Therefore, I think God created the universe, the plant life and the animals.

He created everything. But, I think humans were not derived from dust like the Bible states. I believe God created the animals, which evolved into humans. If not that, than I believe he created apes to be the first humans but saw they were not as advanced as they could be.

So, He altered them slightly and then humans were made. Possibly, Adam and Eve were the first humans to exist, the Bible states God created them last anyway. Or possibly I’m wrong. Whatever the case may be, the answer is out there, but no one will ever find it.

science is the truth, the fact but people wont obey science and work through it so religion or faith in god appears and the work is done but the work was really done by science or maybe in luck but through believing that it was done by god, people get over exited and do a lot of things but science will always be gods friend ^-^
