scientists say that is a hole in the Ozone Layer is there actually hole in Ozone Layer why they say so??

Dear Student,

Ozone hole is an excessive thinning of ozone layer, when more than half of the ozone gas in a particular area is depleted. Harmful ultraviolet rays can pass through it to reach the earth's surface. It happens by the reaction of harmful gases like CFCs. Ozone hole is a certain area of the ozone layer which gets depleted due to pollution or other reasons. It may be a large area over Antarctica or a small area over North Pole.

Actually there is no complete absence of ozone layer, but due to the excessive use of CFCs etc, the layer is becoming day-by-day thinner.

Logically there cannot be a hole in ozone as it is just a layer of 03(ozone gas) but they say so because near Australian continent the ozone layer is a thin that it cannot stop much UV Rays as compared to any other continent
