second five year plan had supported as well as vocal critics explain

Dear Student,
 

One of the problems that Independent India was confronted with was to bring about economic development, as Colonial policies had left India with abject poverty situation. Therefore, the political leadership focused on the following:

a. To bring about Industrial development.
b. Planning Commission was set up in 1950 to frame policies for economic development.
c. A model of mixed economy was adopted where both private and public sector would play a role.
d. Second five year plan gave impetus to major industries like Iron and steel that  would be under the control of the government or public sector.
e. It focused more on the development of basic industries, effective state control over economy.
f. 
Also to build up dams to meets the irrigational needs of the farmers and their support to the agricultural sector. 
 g. The plan also aimed to regulate economy through effective state control.
h. Many criticized this model of development , as they argued that plans have neglected sectors like agriculture, primary education and  ignored environmental implications of policies.
i.Thus even though the plan had supporters , many criticised it.
